Sick and Tired?

Because I am more stubborn than the average person, it took over 20 years of being sick and tired before I was actually ready to do something about it. After FOUR sinus surgeries, two tonsillectomies, (yes two), and an adenoidectomy in the span of ten years I knew I would never get well without a radical change. I not only loved all the wrongs foods, but I was ignorant of the damage it was doing to my body. I started Eat, Pray, Get Well because I want to encourage people to change their health and their lives by changing the way they think about food. If you have any chronic medical problems that haven’t responded to traditional medicine get excited because a change in diet is very often times the answer. It seems so simple yet it can be one of the most challenging and rewarding changes we can make in our lives. I struggled for 20 years with multiple health issues and all the while I never linked my poor diet to my poor health. I spent years on the endless hamster wheel of surgeries followed by more antibiotics (over 100 courses in 20 years) and could never figure out why I was getting increasingly worse. This change in lifestyle is overwhelming for anyone at first so I wanted to take the confusion out of eating and make it fun, but most importantly it had to be simple. I would never have imagined instead of running to the pharmacy I could run to my local grocery store to get well. I believe that God lets people go through difficult circumstances for a reason. I believe in my case it was to ultimately share what I have learned in order to educate people so they can get their health and their life back on track.
On my site you will find all of my recipes are free of sugar, wheat/white flour, gluten, corn, yeast, peanuts, soy, and VERY (very) limited vinegar. They are eliminated because they can be a detriment to our health! More on the “why” later. You will also not find any additives or preservatives. Don’t let this intimidate you and don’t focus on what you can’t have. You are not just eliminating, but incorporating some fantastic nutrient dense foods into your diet as well. You will be surprised at how you find you don’t feel like you are missing out on a thing! I wish I could say I made everything from scratch, no I don’t I take that back. I’m a label reader and when I find a barbeque sauce or a wing sauce that has no sugar and the ingredients are healthy I get so excited and also thrilled that I don’t have to make it from scratch!
I took this picture below back when I was addicted to sugar! I ran into my local Barnes and Noble for a book and came out with this. That’s me with a cupcake and a slice of turtle mudcake on my lap. I ate it right there in the car! Back then it felt impossible to walk by sweets as hard as I tried. The crazy part is I could go on to eat an entire meal afterwards. I was always naturally thin so it never crossed my mind eating this way was a problem. At the point I took this picture I KNEW it was a problem but still had trouble stopping. I felt prompted to take this picture not knowing exactly what I would do with it someday.
