Sunscreen After Skin Cancer (Most Are Toxic)
Written by Erin Porter
I wore sunscreen daily since I was 18 years old, so how did I end up with skin cancer on my nose? For the full story of what presented as a tiny dot resulting in Mohs surgery and reconstruction, you can read about that here. Since then, I have dug in and researched what exactly I was constantly slathering on my face each day and why and how it failed me. It’s still hard to reconcile the fact we are advised to use cancer causing sunscreens to prevent cancer. How can this be our best and brightest?
I’ll show you the latest sunscreen on my radar called Sky & Sol and why I am now recommending it for clean, nontoxic, sun protection. Their rule of thumb is that you shouldn’t put it on your face if you wouldn’t put it in your mouth. Which eating it is what they often do in their commercials. If you decide to purchase it here on my website, you will get 10% off by using this code ERINP.
Read on and I’ll share which ingredients to look for in a sunscreen and which to avoid like the plague.

Do I still use sunscreen after skin cancer?
Yes, and no. Although my face is always covered in sunscreen, I allow the rest of my body to soak up fifteen to twenty minutes of sun every morning while walking. If I’m at the beach, or out in the sun longer than expected, I will use sunscreen all over. I never leave the house without it.
The Good Ingredients to Look for in Sunscreen
Lets start off with the good. Sky & Sol sunscreen has 7 ingredients. The active ingredient being Non-Nano 25% zinc oxide. The inactive ingredients are Grass-fed/Grass-finished tallow, jajoba oils, beeswax, jajoba esters, and propolis. Get 10% off your purchase using my link to Sky & Sol.

Look for ingredients with zinc oxide (non-nano) as the main ingredient, with none of the other ingredients listed in the below “avoid at all costs” ingredients.
Avoid These Ingredients in Sunscreen
- Oxybenzone
- Avobenzone
- Formaldehyde
- Butyloctyl Salicylate
- Parabens
- Homosalate
- Methylisothiazolinone
- Nano particles
- Preservatives

Diet and Skin Cancer
There is plenty of evidence to suggest diet may help prevent skin cancer, and that is a diet high in carotene-rich fruits and vegetables. Markus Rothkranz has an interesting take on skin cancer. He (and many others) believe it is not the sun that is dangerous, but the toxins in our body coming through the skin. He says our outer layer is the liver, and if the liver, our filter, is clogged, it will push toxins out through the skin. Then when the sun hits the toxins, that is when trouble starts to brew. The outside of us, our skin, is a reflection of what is happening on the inside of us.
Avoiding processed foods, sugar, as well as minimal wheat and dairy can go along way for not only healthy skin health but our overall health.
