The number one question I get asked on my blog is what do I eat for breakfast? (I have no idea why either) but my answer is always a smoothie of course! I alternate between my berry spinach smoothie and my Garden of Life plant protein smoothie. It’s quick, it’s simple, and it’s packed with real nutrition. I particularly like to make smoothies in the bullet because I love the convenience of grabbing the cup you make it in and taking it on the go. It fits perfect in my car’s beverage console.
UPDATE – things have changed around here, although I still love my convenient smoothies, I now start my day off with a green juice 95% of the time. I picked up this habit in December of 2018 and I have never felt better! I still drink this recipe as a snack.
My blog is all about nourishing your body with foods that heal. As a former chronic disease sufferer I have learned to view food a bit differently. These days with every bite, I think to myself “is what I’m about to eat going to harm me or continue to heal me? ” With that being sad, what I love about this power breakfast smoothie is that it is considered a definite healer in my book and here’s why. The protein powder has 30% of our recommended daily protein, its grain and gluten free, AND its packed with probiotics! Almond milk contains high levels of vitamin E, magnesium, iron and calcium, just to name a few. Berries are an excellent source of vitamin C, (which is an immunity booster) and they also have anti-cancer, anti-fungal properties. The added coconut water is a rich source of electrolytes and rich in natural vitamins (especially the B vitamins). Compare that to a doughnut or a pop tart! How would you rather feed your body?
- 1 single package (or serving scoop) of Garden of Life organic plant protein powder. Flavors come in smooth vanilla, smooth chocolate, smooth energy or almond butter (I used smooth chocolate for this recipe).
- 6 ounces unsweetened almond milk
- 1 cup of frozen or fresh strawberry’s (or berries of your choice)
- 2 ounces coconut water
- Mix all ingredients in blender or bullet and ENJOY!
