How Do You Know If You Are Binge Eating (My Stunning Old Eating Habits)

How do you know if you are binge eating?  You would think you would just know right?  You just wolfed down an enormous amount of food in a short amount of time, and it’s a habit you engage in often.  One would think it’s obvious this may be BED (binge eating disorder.)  But I don’t think it’s always clear.  At least in my case it wasn’t.  Below I share my story on CBS.

CBS Great Day Live Interview:  I Discuss My Old Binge Eating Habits

So why didn’t I realize eating that shear amount of food shown in that video (gas station video below) was binge eating?  Because I never threw up and because I never gained weight.  For those two reasons I never saw it as an issue.  As to the “why” I didn’t gain weight?  I really have no explanation for it because I wasn’t a big exerciser.  I was mostly too fatigued to do much exercise.  Not only due to the abuse I was doing to my body through my diet, but because I was also battling mold illness after being exposed to toxic mold in New York.

VIDEO: I’ll Show You What Gas Station Binge Eating Looks Like

Symptoms of BED

  • Eating large amounts of food when you are not hungry
  • Eating until uncomfortably full
  • Hiding the amount of food you are consuming
  • Having feelings of guilt around the amount of food you consume

Note:  I am not an expert at eating disorders such as binge eating disorder (BED) so I can’t say what causes it or how to stop.  I can only share my own experience.

Tips to Help Prevent Binge Eating

  • Learn which foods are a trigger for you.  Certain foods may cause the desire to consume them in unhealthy amounts.
  • Don’t let yourself get hungry without having a plan.  Have healthy foods that you love on hand and planned out.
  • Gain momentum.  Once you get those foods that you crave (sugar, processed foods) out of your system for a period of time your cravings will diminish.
  • Don’t skip meals.
  • Don’t keep high sugar, high carb, processed foods in your home.
  • Candida and fungus need sugar and carbs to survive.  This is why they could also be causing your cravings.  If you have been exposed to toxic mold, eat the SAD diet (Standard American Diet), have taken many courses of antibiotics in your lifetime, you may have an overgrowth of candida.
  • Get Help from a trained professional if needed.

Making Sugar Free Chocolate Mug Cake In the Second Part of My CBS Interview

Eyes Are Being Opened

I took this picture below when I was addicted to all things sugar!  A trip to my local Barnes and Noble store to buy a book turned into a binge session.  I ate it right there in the parking lot in my car and loved every moment of it.  Of course I didn’t love the consequences I would suffer later in my health.  By the time I took this photo I knew it was a problem but I still had trouble stopping.  I had a systemic candida/fungal infection brought on mold exposure as well as taking hundreds of courses of antibiotics (which are fungal metabolites.)  The sugar was only fueling the infection I was trying to eradicate.  I have to mention I also did a lot of praying and believe God is interested in more than our souls.  He is interested in us being whole and free from bondage .

The second edition of Eat Pray Get Well is now available and can be found on my website as well as Amazon.

Eat Pray Get Well is a story of overcoming chronic illness, a difficult childhood, and food addiction, plus exclusive interviews with Supermodel Carol Alt, renowned cardiologist Stephen Sinatra MD, Joe Cross of Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, Doug Kaufmann host of televisions Know The Cause and more.   Also includes 55 recipes free of gluten, wheat, yeast, peanuts, refined sugar.

Are Root Canals Bad For You? (Don’t Make the Mistake I Did)

Are root canals bad for you?  Read on as I have learned a lot about root canals and dental cavitations over the last two years.  For almost my entire life I was able to escape dental issues.  I rarely even got cavities.  In fact, it’s probably been over 15 years since I’ve had one.  Then a piece of tooth from my back molar broke off while eating.  I didn’t realize it at the time what a big deal this would become.

Dentist office. Dental tools, accessories used by dentist

Dental Visit to Discuss Root Canals

I made a visit to a dentist who instantly told me the tooth would need a root canal.  No questions asked, I went ahead and had the procedure done.  Isn’t this what everyone does?  Nobody wants a missing tooth, even if it is the last tooth in their mouth that nobody ever sees.  After the root canal procedure was complete, I went on with my life with no complications.  That is until I had to have my top wisdom teeth removed.

This wisdom tooth was right next to that root canal I mentioned.  This time I asked my holistic doctor for advice and the advice he gave was “it’s important to find a dentist that also removes the periodontal ligament” (or the PDL).  If it’s not removed, health issues can ensue.  So I was careful to find a dentist who removes the PDL  I even flew out of state to this dentist on a recommendation for the procedure.  You would think that would be the end of the story and my PDL was removed right?  Wrong!  Which is why everything was about to go sideways.

What Is The Periodontal Ligament?

The PDL essentially serves as blood supply and shock absorber for our teeth.  According to Dr. Michael Rehme, DDS,  “if the periodontal ligament is not carefully removed from the socket after the extraction, the surrounding bone receives no notification that the tooth is gone.  The continued presence of any portion of the ligament gives the biological message to the surrounding jawbone that all is well and no new bone growth is needed.  This void that occurs within the surrounding bone is called a cavitation. A cavitation refers to a toxin-containing hole in the jawbone that often develops because of incomplete healing after a routine tooth extraction. The contents of cavitations are always necrotic, dead or dying material.”

One Week After Wisdom Teeth Extraction I Started Experiencing Joint Pain

I returned home from having my wisdom teeth removed and within one week I went from being completely agile to feeling extreme stiffness in my feet upon walking to the bathroom in the morning.  I thought it was odd, but after about 10 seconds on my feet the stiffness would subside.  As time went on I noticed I would get this sensation every time I was off my feet for a period of time.  Upon rising I felt what I could only imagine arthritis to feel like in my feet!  I kept waiting for it to resolve on it’s own but it didn’t.  Then my hip started feeling stiff as well as my hands.

I decided to get a foot x-ray and sure enough I was diagnosed with arthritis.  But how?  Why did I all of a sudden have arthritis?  I thought back and realized the only thing in my life that had changed was recent dental work.  It seemed logical to start there.  I made an appointment with a local dentist.

Why 2D X-Rays Are Not Good Enough

The dentist of course took x-rays and said “everything looks good” and I left, but I wasn’t satisfied.  Something was missing.  I called the dental office in Atlanta where I had the procedure done.  I wanted them to assure me that the periodontal ligament was indeed removed during the procedure.  They of course assured me the dentist “always removes it, no exceptions.”  Back to the drawing board.

I made a second appointment with a local dentist who did another 2D x -ray and told me everything looks great which left me completely puzzled.  I took my dilemma to social media.  It was on instagram of all places someone reached out to me and said “a two demential x-ray is useless in your case, you need a cone beam scan.”  I searched my area for dentists who have the more sophisticated cone beam scan and that is how I found what I call my “angel dentist” Dr. Luis Alicea, D.MD.

What The Cone Beam Scan Showed

Dr. Alicea showed me my cone beam CT scan.  It revealed the dentist who preformed my wisdom teeth extraction had NOT in fact removed the PDL!  It was right there in black and white for me to see.  There were also fragments of tooth left behind and cavitations also formed, and the sites were incredibly infected.  An infection that could not be seen on the 2D x-ray.  I felt so blessed to have my answer.  Dr. Alicea explained he would have to open up those sites, remove the periodontal ligament, and add PRP (platelet-rich plasma) which is your own blood being placed into the site.  He also explained the importance of having old root canals removed which was right next to the wisdom tooth that was extracted.  I agreed, he would also remove the old root canal.

PRP – An Important Step in Healing

In Dr. Alicea’s words, “PRP permits the body to take advantage of the normal healing pathways at a greatly accelerated rate. During the healing process, the body rushes many cells and cell-types to the wound in order to initiate the healing process. One of those cell types is platelets. Platelets perform many functions, including the formation of a blood clot and release of growth factors (GF) into the wound. These GF (platelet derived growth factors PGDF, transforming growth factor beta TGF, and insulin-like growth factor ILGF) function to assist the body in repairing itself by stimulating stem cells to regenerate new tissue.

The more growth factors released sequestered into the wound, the more stem cells stimulated to produce new host tissue. Thus, one can easily see that PRP permits the body to heal faster and more efficiently.”

Human tooth anatomy. Vector diagram of healthy molar

What Happened After My Procedure With Dr. Alicea?

Within weeks of removing the old root canal tooth and fixing the dental cavitations the stiffness in my feet completely dissolved, as did the stiffness in my hands.  The stiffness in my hip has gotten better but has not completely resolved yet.  I should also mention I had shooting pains on the same side of my head as the infected area for years that I did not link to dental issues.  That has also completely resolved.

It has been a little over a year and I am so grateful for Dr. Alicea.  He not only has the most up to date equipment making diagnosis easier, but also uses ozone to treat infected areas which was a huge part of my recovery.  I have never met a dentist who has this much compassion for people.  He will not let you out of his care until the issue is figured out and resolved.  I highly recommend him to anyone who started having systemic issues after dental work.

Are All Root Canals Bad?

If you have never seen the movie “Root Cause” I highly recommend it.  It was taken off of Netflix after much pressure from the dental community but it’s worth the watch and you can make your own decision.

Gerald H SmithDDS, DNM says “70-90 percent of all medical problems are from old root canals.”  He says conventional dentistry believes teeth are not connected to rest of body. the blood supply in the mouth will take any toxins via the lymphatic system and take it down to the thyroid, the thymus, the heart and the rest of the body.

Root Cause Movie

Quotes from the movie Root Cause.   “No branch of medicine exists where a dead organ is left in except in dentistry where a root canal is left in.  If you think you are going to get away with an infected toxic tooth and not have a systemic consequence, I think you are diluting yourself”.  “After root canals, bacteria still reside within the tooth where the bacteria are able to flourish and now there is no access from the patients own immune system to the tooth because in the process of doing the root canal  the blood supply and the nerve have been severed from that tooth.”

For myself personally I would never get another root canal, but I also believe some people’s immune system can handle them.  Most, if not all holistic dentists will tell you that they themselves would always choose to have the tooth extracted rather than have a root canal.

8 Natural Sinus Infection Therapies You Can Try At Home

Take it from someone who had four sinus surgeries and was still sick, sinus infection misery is real!  I have been on hundreds of course of antibiotics over two decades and they only proved damaging in the long run.  I’ll give you 8 natural therapies you can try at home (with your doctors permission of course.)

Female face shows nasal sinus infection

8 Natural Sinus Infection Therapies You Can Try At Home

  1. Remove sugar, wheat, corn, yeast, soy, peanuts, and processed foods from your diet.  These types of foods feed fungus (and notoriously contain fungi.) According to the Mayo Clinic, 96% of all sinus infections are fungal in nature.  So don’t feed it!  I myself try to follow the Kaufmann diet.  In my television interview below, I get into greater detail about the “causes” of sinus infections.  Remember, bacteria are opportunistic, so where there is fungus in the sinuses there is usually bacteria as well.  In addition antibiotics are fungal metabolites, therefore they can even fuel fungal infections.
  2. Consider Anti-fungals. Since almost all sinus infections are proven to be fungal in nature, natural anti-fungals like apple cider vinegar, caprylic acid, garlic, sinus defensecitripdrops, coconut oil and grapefruit seed extract can be helpful.  Colostrum ld is extremely important as it not only kills pathogens naturally but heals and seals a leaky gut.  Colostrum ld was something that personally helped me get off of antacids. You may even require a prescription anti-fungal such as Nystatin or Diflucan for a month or so.  This is something you can discuss with your doctor.

Television:  Below is my interview on Know the Cause.  We talk about my decades long sinus infection as well as other chronic health issues.

Best Supplements For A Sinus Infection

3. Probiotics can restore the flora balance in your digestive system.  If you have ever been on an antibiotic this is crucial.  Antibiotics wipe out the good bacteria in your intestines (where 80% of your immune system lies) so it’s important you replace it.  Also, taking a digestive enzyme with your meals can be helpful. Digestive enzymes improve your body’s ability to breakdown food, as well as promote a healthy gut.

4.  Sovereign Silver was a game changer for me personally.  I have tried so many silver products that did absolutely nothing to help rid me of my sinus infection.  Now I always keep this silver nasal spray on hand and use it at the first sign of sinus issues.

5. NAC, Bromelain, and Quercetin are inexpensive supplements that support sinus health.  NAC helps move stagnated mucus, bromelain helps with sinus inflammation and quercetin acts as an antihistamine.  If you have food allergies a product called NSC24 beta glucan allergy formula is wonderful.  I am not an affiliate for them but I love this product and have been using it for years.

Natural Therapies Continued For A Sinus Infection

6. Check your environment.  Do you have any leaks or suspect you live in a moldy environment? Fix leaks and add a quality air filter to your home. Microbalance has safe products to rid your clothes, nose, home and even your pet of mold spores.

7.  Nasal irrigation.  A NeilMed irrigation bottle is a must if you have chronic sinus issues.  Sinus irrigation will not only allow you to flush out mucus but you can add anti-fungals such as citridrops mentioned above.

8. Xylitol sprays.  Xlear has a new product called “Rescue”  Not only does it contain the anti-fungal xylitol, but also contains essential oils and powerful anti-fungals such as oregano, parsley, eucalyptus, and tea tree.

NOTE: Some people like myself struggle with difficult to treat sinus infection for years.  I had two hard to treat bacteria (staph and pseudomonas) as well as two fungi (aspergillus and curvalaria).  These types of sinus infections need to be treated by an ENT trained in fungal related sinus infections.  I recommend Dr. Donald Dennis in Atlanta, GA.  I also suggest you read some of my other articles below on this topic and watch my two television interviews in this post.  Arm yourself with as much information as possible so you can become your own best health advocate.  Often time chronic sinus infections are only a symptom of a larger systemic issue in our body.

Are Black Bean Burgers Healthy?

WebMd states “The antioxidants, fiber, protein, and carbohydrates in black beans make them nutritionally powerful. A diet rich in beans can reduce your risk of several serious medical conditions and help your body to process calories more effectively.”

We all know it takes a variety of foods to keep us healthy, black bean burgers can be a good alternative on occasion to beef burgers.

Nutrition Facts:

Black Beans – are high in fiber and less fat and calories than ground beef.  Beans are great for your heart, digestion, and high in magnesium, iron, and B vitamins.

Onions – Onions are a powerful antifungal which I appreciate since I am on an antifungal diet. (specifically the Kaufmann diet).  Onions are also good for your heart and contain antioxidants that fight inflammation which may lower heart disease risk.

Oats – Oats are also rich in antioxidants, are a good source of fiber, and help to lower cholesterol.  While oats are already naturally gluten free, they may be made in a facility that also use grains such as wheat.  If you are gluten free be sure to specifically order them certified gluten free.

Poblano Peppers – Interestingly, poblano peppers show anti cancer activity.  Poblano peppers are also high in Vitamins A, C, and antioxidants such as capsaicin and carotenoids.

Avocado – per Medical News Today “Avocados are a source of vitamins C, E, K, and B6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium. They also provide lutein, beta carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids. Avocados contain high levels of healthy, beneficial fats, which can help a person feel fuller between meals.”

Easy Pumpkin Delight Recipe (Sugar Free)

This no bake pumpkin delight recipe could not be any easier.  What I love about this recipe is the raw ingredients.  I have the pleasure of interviewing supermodel Carol Alt last year for the second edition of my book Eat Pray Get Well – A Journey from Chronic Illness & Brokenness to Wholeness & Healing.  Carol Alt taught me that eating as much food in it’s raw state does wonders for our health.  Incorporating more raw foods doesn’t have to be difficult (think hummus and guacamole.)

Making pumpkin delight is easy.  As a general rule, all you need to make any sugar and gluten free dessert including this pumpkin delight recipe, is to have a great gluten free flour alternative on hand, as well as a sugar free healthy sweetener.

If you are wanting to prepare a pumpkin delight recipe, but aren’t sure how, and want to know the nutrition in pumpkin, I’ve got it covered in this article.  This recipe is also sugar free and gluten free.

Ingredients You Will Need To Make Pumpkin Delight Recipe

  • ⅓ cup xylitol ( add an extra tablespoon if you like very sweet)
  • 1 tsp pumpkin spice

When Is Pumpkin Delight Good to Serve?

In America, we seem to save our pumpkin recipes for the fall and there is good reason for that, pumpkins are harvested in America in the fall.  During the spring and summer months, fresh pumpkin is almost nonexistent.  Thanksgiving tradition causes millions of families to serve pumpkin pie for dessert, but today’s version of the pie is not as healthy as our ancestors version.  Typically what was once a dessert derived from fresh ingredients has become a very highly processed food.

Canned pumpkin has given us a convenient way to extend this Thanksgiving treat to any time of the year.  This recipe is a good choice when experiencing a sweet tooth.  You can satisfy your sweet tooth while simultaneously adding some solid nutrition to your dessert.

Nutrition Facts Of Pumpkin

Pumpkin

This large fruit is high in beta carotene, containing even more than carrots!  Beta carotene may reduce the risk of certain types of cancer as well as heart disease per Medical News Today.  Pumpkin also contains vitamins such as C and E and is high in vitamin A.

More Nutrition Facts

Nutmeg

This spice not only yields vibrant flavor but also has some terrific health benefits.  Nutmeg can help relieve inflammation, it is good for our brains, digestion, and gut health.  After doing some research I was surprised to find that too much nutmeg can actually cause hallucinations.  For this reason it is suggested to not consume more than 1.5 tablespoons per sitting.

Almonds

There are so many nutrients in almonds and are a terrific source of antioxidants.  Remember, we need antioxidants to fight off free radicals in our body.  It’s those free radicals that are are major component in aging.   Almonds are also high in magnesium which can help benefit blood sugar.  More benefits of the almond is that they are high in vitamin E, are a good amount of B vitamins, can help lower cholesterol, and help reduce hunger.

Cinnamon

We tend to think of spices such as cinnamon as just an addition of wonderful flavors to our coffee, hot chocolate, or desserts but many, including cinnamon pack a powerful nutritional punch.  Again just like pumpkin, cinnamon may reduce the risk of cancer due to the large amounts of polyphenols in cinnamon.  It also has positive effects on our brain, heart, and can help reduce inflammation.  Just as nutmeg must be consumed in moderation it is the same with cinnamon.  Research has shown that eating too much of a compound called coumarin contained in cinnamon can be harmful to your health.

The Kaufmann diet was founded by Doug Kaufmann, TV host of Know The Cause.  The Kaufmann is similar to keto.  Doug has researched mycology for more than forty years.  The goal of the Kaufmann diet is to starve pathogenic yeasts and fungi inside the body.  The Kaufmann diet also limits exposure to the poisons that fungi make, called mycotoxins.  Fungi, yeasts, and mycotoxins are responsible for many health issues.  So many health issues in fact, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) has told us to “think fungus” when we have diseases that are not responding to conventional medicine.

For a full list of acceptable foods on the Kaufmann diet see my previous post.  Also, 99% of my recipes are Kaufmann friendly.

I Thought Alcohol Is Good For The Heart?

Without going into too much detail about alcohol, we do know the topic can be quite confusing. We have all heard that drinking in moderation can be good for our heart, right?  The American Heart Association stated “No research has proved a cause-and-effect link between drinking alcohol and better heart health.”  Another study at McMaster University determined, “Moderate alcohol consumption may increase risk of atrial fibrillation in people with heart disease.” (Science Daily 1 October 2012).

Can Alcohol Cause Cancer?

In 2016, WebMD reports compelling evidence that drinking alcohol can cause at least seven types of cancer.  We also know alcohol contains mycotoxins (fungal poisons) and that alcohol is considered a Group 1 carcinogenic. Group 1 means it is a proven cause of cancer according to www.cancer.org. In light of this research, I personally think the risks outweigh any benefits. When I do indulge occasionally, I try to stick to potato vodka with fresh squeezed grapefruit.

Are Some Alcohol Cleaner Than Others?

There are many in the health industry that share the opinion that alcohol that is clear, distilled, and unsweetened is the best choice.  This is especially true if you have a history of candida. Think vodka, gin, and tequila which have zero carbs. Also make sure you hydrate with plenty of water as you drink. Dave Asprey, a biohacker best known for his Bulletproof Coffee, has some good advice on how to counteract some of alcohol’s negative effects. He says to make sure you take a vitamin C capsule before each drink, and take some activated charcoal after drinking. Dave also makes something called Glutathione Force, which he recommends taking if you are going to drink. It supports the liver and helps stop free radical chain reactions associated with a stressor like alcohol and protects against oxidative stress.

Alcohol And Mycotoxins

If you are still on the fence about alcohol, consider this statement from the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology, “Alcohol is the mycotoxin of the Saccharomyces yeast-brewers’ yeast. Alcohol producers often use grains that are too contaminated with fungi and mycotoxins to be used for table foods, so the risk is higher that you are consuming more than just alcohol in your beverage.”1

3 Easy Ways to Eat More Fruits & Vegetables (Especially if you hate them)

It seemed only natural to do a post about 3 ways to eat more fruits and vegetables after my interviews with Supermodel Carol Alt Joe Cross, and Tommy Rosa.  When model Carol Alt became ill during the height of her career, she turned to a mostly raw diet to regain her health.  Tommy Rosa was involved in a hit and run accident and had a near death experience.  During this time he believes he went to heaven and met Jesus who gave him health revelations to live by.  One of them was eating clean, vibrant foods found in nature.  In my video interview with Joe Cross from the movie Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, Joe explains how he juiced his way back to health.

If you have time to revisit those interviews above, they are enlightening and inspiring.  Carol is the reason I bought my first Vitamix, and because of Joe, juicing became a habit of mine.  Read on and I will also show you the tough task of getting teens to eat more vegetables.

3 Appliances That Make It Easy To Eat More Fruits And Vegetables (Especially If You Hate Them!)

Carol suggests these 3 appliances if you want to give a raw diet a try or if you just want to get in more fruits and vegetables.  I completely agree and I would not be able to consume this much vegetables without the help of these great tools below!

  1. Blender– My husband bought me a Vitamix last year (no I did not get it sent to me for free.)  They are pricey, but let me tell you, it is worth every penny!  Recently in a podcast I was asked if my house was burning down what would I grab and my response was “my Vitamix.”  A Vitamix allows you to blend whole fruits and vegetables with the skin into a liquid that is not thick or gritty.  This option retains the fiber.  The powerful blade allows you to make smooth nut butters, as well as hot soups (I share a video below of my teenage son and I making broccoli and cheese soup).  You can also make “nice cream”.  I will be doing a video shortly on how to make this dairy free, healthy dessert.
  2. Juicer – I use the Nama juicer.  This is the brand Joe Cross uses.
  3. Dehydrator – The sky is the limit of what you can make in a dehydrator.  There is anything from dried fruit, fruit roll ups, and Carol Alts favorite, cauliflower popcorn (which I made and loved it.)  It really does taste like popcorn.

Roasted Veggie Chickpea Pasta (and my Interview with Dr. Sinatra)

This week I want to share part of the wonderful interview I had with renowned cardiologist Dr. Stephen Sinatra.  We talk about how emotions, the food we eat, grounding, and even our spiritual lives affect our heart.  I also share my roasted veggie chickpea pasta recipe using Dr. Sinatra’s heart healthy pasta and olive oils.

If you are not familiar with Dr. Stephen Sinatra M.D. he is a board-certified cardiologist who is also board certified in internal medicine, and has additional certifications in nutrition, bioenergetic psychotherapy, and anti-aging medicine. He has lectured worldwide and has been a featured guest on many national radio and television shows including CNN, MSNBC, Fox on Health, the Dr. Oz, The Doctors, and 700 Club shows, and The Today Show.  Dr. Sinatra uses the best of both conventional and integrative therapies when treating his patients.  Dr. Sinatra has authored several books and medical periodicals as well as co-authoring the book Health Revelations from Heaven and Earth with Tommy Rosa.  I also interview Tommy Rosa on his near death experience coming up next month.

Excerpt from Eat Pray Get Well with Dr. Stephen Sinatra

Erin – You may know that Doug Kaufmann has a theory about statins. They were initially created to be an antifungal and then oops, we found out they also lower cholesterol! So could it be that fungus and yeast are sometimes the culprit in high cholesterol?

Dr. Sinatra: There are those theories out there and an antifungal diet is like an anti-sugar diet, he is probably very correct!

Erin: Can you explain what lipoprotein (a), also referred to as LP little a, is and why is it so important that it is monitored? Here in America do doctors routinely monitor this cholesterol particle?

The Real Truth About Cholesterol

Dr. Sinatra: This is the real truth about cholesterol. This is a very small cholesterol particle that has what we call a disulfide bridge, it is very inflammatory, Erin, it’s not only inflammatory, but it causes blood clotting at the same time, so now if you have high LP(a) you now have a substance that not only causes clotting and thickening of the blood, like red ketchup blood, but it’s also inflammation enhancing as well which is the sine qua non of coronary heart disease. LP(a) is the real cholesterol story. The problem is statins can make it worse. Statins really don’t alter it, the only things that work for LP(a) are things like niacin.

There’s a substance from Canada called boluoke. It’s what we call lumbrokinase. It’s almost like a snake venom, it’s a substance that helps dissolve clots. I really like boluoke and it’s one of my remedies for high LP(a). It’s good for people who can’t tolerate niacin. LP(a) is something the public really needs to know about. The whole aspect of medicine is changing before our eyes. The whole aspect of medicine will rely on genetics, where mapping out genomes of people so we can find out their weaknesses, and now the new medicine going forward will be shoring up the defenses on weak genes and trying to magnify our stronger genes, giving us greater resistance to illness and disease.

Erin – Preventative instead of waiting until the disease hits us.

Dr. Sinatra: Yes, it will be more preventative I can tell you that. This is why I am such a big believer in olive oil. What olive oil does is it changes pro-inflammatory genes back to a non-inflammatory state. That’s why you see more one-hundred-year-old people in the Mediterranean Basin and they all have one thing in common, they use olive oil as a main source of fat. I really think it’s the secret sauce of the Mediterranean diet. If you go on my site, HeartMDInstitute.com, I have a lot of information on olive oil. It has to be extra virgin olive oil though, the problem now is a lot of countries are cutting their olive oil with canola oil which is as you know pro-inflammatory.

Erin: Yes, and they are still allowed to claim it as 100% olive oil which seems very wrong. I want to mention you also have your own brand of oil which can be found at Vervana.com. I have tried it, it’s fantastic!

Dr. Sinatra: Yes, if it’s 75% or more, they can keep canola off the label. It’s really horrible. We are certified by California Olive Oil Council (COOC) and they will only certify 100% extra virgin olive oil.

What Dr. Sinatra Says About Grounding And The Heart

Erin: Let’s talk about the fascinating topic of grounding. I learned everything I know on this topic from you and now I make sure to walk barefoot on the beach or grass several times a week. Can you tell us how grounding works?

Dr. Sinatra: When I was lecturing across the country, two of the greatest discoveries in my 50 years of medicine have been CoQ10 and grounding. They are related because they are both electron donors and they both drive ATP (the energy of life) in a preferential direction. CoQ10 and grounding have a special connection so to speak. The way grounding works is you are taking in mother earth energy. Now what is the mother earth energy? We call it the Schumann effect, and the Schumann effect is called 7.83 hertz. It’s the humming of the earth, it actually has the same frequency as Om in yoga. When yogis would say ‘Ommmm’ they were really chanting the frequency of 7.83. The humming of the earth effect is caused by lightning strikes around the equator. We live in Tampa, and the first thing I do after a lightning storm, Erin, is I go out in the grass and walk in the grass or the sand. If you have ever smelled the ozone in the air after a storm, it’s pretty cool because that means there is a lot of energy in the air. Whenever there is a lightning storm, once it’s over, I just soak in those electrons and that’s the reason I moved to the beach!

Erin: Same here, we bought a beach house because I knew of the healing powers of grounding and the microbes in the sand and the water.

Dr. Sinatra: Yes, I did so much research on grounding and I realized grounding not only drives ATP in a preferential direction but it also attenuates the overactive sympathetic nervous system. When you ground your feet to mother earth and soak in the Schumann effect, the 7.83 hertz, you are literally taking in this energy and not only are you attenuating the overactive nervous system, you are balancing the parasympathetic with the sympathetic. You are also thinning the blood at the same time. Now this is really important because I believe with all the electromagnetics in the environment, WiFi, 5G, cordless phones, cellular phones, computers, baby monitors, the list goes on and on, grounding becomes even more important. What 5G frequency electromagnetics does is it takes red blood cells and makes it the consistency of red ketchup. When we ground to mother earth and take in the Schumann effect what we are doing is we are taking in these electrons which not only balance the overactive autonomic nervous system, but we are also thinning the blood at the same time. When I did this research I really thought that I would get this in major journals of cardiology but they all turned it down, they thought it was hocus pocus. I was on the phone with this incredible researcher from Sweden, his name is Olle Johansson. He is really a prolific guy. He is anti-cellular phone, etc., but he laughingly told me, “Your group will be dead and buried and you’ll probably get the Nobel Prize for this, but it’s not going to happen in your lifetime.” I thought that was funny.

Erin: Funny and frustrating at the same time I bet. That is great information on grounding!

Electrosensitivity And EMF’s

Dr. Sinatra: My son worked on Wall Street and he became ill. He had electrosensitivity syndrome which happens to about 3% of Americans. A lot of people can’t function from EMF’s. He actually now lives on a little island off the coast of Greece because there are no cell phone towers. There is no 5G, they have 3G at the most.

Erin: Is it in a blue zone?

Sprinkling the veggies with the basil olive oil before going in the oven.

Dr. Sinatra: Yes, he’s in a blue zone! He talks about blue zones, his name is Stephen Sinatra (same as mine) and he has a website called Ageless.com. Stephen does podcasts on earthing and grounding. He believes it literally saved his life.

Erin: It probably did. I can only imagine what we are going to find out about these cell phones and 5G in 20 years! But for right now it’s hard to convince anybody because we think we need them and can’t live without them. My son carries his phone in his pocket all day and I even caught him sleeping with his phone under his pillow. I told him that can’t ever happen again!

Dr. Sinatra: Have him listen to my interview. It’s causing male and female sterility, and tell your son this, sperm production goes down 400% within two hours with a cellphone in the front pocket. There is a lot of data on that. Female sterility used to be more common than male sterility, now it’s male infertility that has surpassed female sterility. But underneath the pillow, oh my God, it’s going into his brain. There’s more brain tumors right now in younger adults, it’s very scary.

Erin: I want to go back to grounding just for a minute. Do you find that if you want to get close to God, for example if I feel I can’t ‘get through’ and I am looking for answers from Him, there is something about taking a walk on the beach barefoot. It’s almost as if that’s where I find Him, where I can get connected, and I don’t know if grounding has anything to do with it or not? Or maybe it’s just giving yourself the quiet time to get closer, but I just feel closer to Him that way.

Dr. Sinatra: I’ll put it this way, whenever you ground and you are reconnecting your autonomic nervous system, you have a better chance at connecting to higher spiritual power. The sympathetic nervous system is neutralized. The sympathetic nervous system keeps you away from spirituality, so when you balance the overactive sympathetic nervous system you have more potential to develop your spiritual side.

Is Eating Organic Important?

Erin: How important is eating organic food and using supplements to keep our heart healthy, and tell us about the ‘awesome foursome.’

Dr. Sinatra: Eating organic is really important, you know that as much as I do. Let’s talk about the awesome foursome (CoQ10, L-carnitine, D-ribose, and magnesium).I learned about CoQ10 40 years ago and I learned about magnesium a little earlier than that because I used to use it in intensive care units for arrhythmias. I learned about l-carnitine 30 years ago and then ribose pulled it all together.

I’ll never forget, I was sitting in a meeting in 2004, and one of my colleagues, a board certified cardiologist was talking about D-ribose and I had this immediate ‘Aha’ moment because he provided me with the missing link I’d been looking for, for years! Because D-ribose, in combination with CoQ10, l-carnitine and magnesium, drives your chi energy in a preferential direction. Somebody is going to discover this, it’s not going to be me but I think what happens here is that when you give these ATP supporting nutrients it’s connecting with either our exosomes or our chemical messages and what it’s doing is it’s turning on our intrinsic stem cells and when you turn on your intrinsic stem cells – let’s say you have a damaged heart from a massive heart attack 20 years ago, and you turn on your intrinsic stem cells so now you can rebuild or rejuvenate. The best word is ‘renew’ cellular tissue in your heart and completely regenerate your heart. I know that sounds crazy but I’ve seen it over and over again. In fact, I’ve treated so many cases of congenital heart disease where parents were crying in my office because I couldn’t find a heart transplant for their-nine year-old son who was in heart failure. I’d put them on my metabolic heart program, the awesome foursome, and now these kids are living into their 30’s and beyond. By the time hearts were available for some of these patients, they were having such a great quality of life on the awesome foursome that they refused the heart transplant.
