NEW Video: Our 7 Day Juice Cleanse Experience & Do I Ever Eat Junk Food?

Written by Erin Porter

In December I inevitably got sick after the holidays from over indulging on ALL the wrong foods.  So, after watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead for the 5th time, we got a crazy idea to do a juice (and bone broth) cleanse.

Be warned, a juice cleanse is no joke. In fact you will do very little laughing the first few days.  Looking back, being sick and miserable was a blessing because it helped me to keep going when my thoughts took me in crazy directions.  On day three I shared with my husband that I thought my teeth were depressed.  We realized it had been the first time we laughed in about 3 days. Juicing doesn’t just rid you of toxins, but rids you of much of your personality as well.  I also saw my husband in a different light.  I had actual incentive to do this.  I was sick and the doctor wanted to put me on antibiotics (no thanks)  but my husband is perfectly healthy and he’s not overweight, so to be honest I’m not even sure why he did it besides supporting me.  I watched him fight a different battle as he was addicted to coffee.  Giving it up cold turkey left him with a 48 hour migraine, yet he still cheered us on when I wanted to give in (yeah he’s pretty cool).   There were plenty of positives once you get over the 3 day hump.  We had energy that we hadn’t experienced maybe ever, I saw my body fighting my infection on it’s own, we lost our cravings, and we lost some weight!  Watch the video below for our experience.  I posted some reasons to juice below if you find you need some inspiration.

By the way if you decide to give it a try I suggest watching the movie (Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead) first. You can find it on Netflix or watch it free online.  If you haven’t seen it, Joe Cross juices for 60 days in order to rid himself of disease and of his meds (which he does)!  This movie does a great job of psyching you up, I can almost guarantee you may run out and buy a juicer after watching this movie!

Reasons to juice:

Juicing places your body in “healing” mode when it’s not busy digesting food

Retrain your taste buds to crave healthy food

Rids your body of toxins

Juicing floods your body with nutrients that can be quickly absorbed to help fight disease

And the icing on the cake – weight loss

Do I still eat junk food?  Although I eat healthy 80-90% of the time, there are other times where I feel like I would do just about anything for a donut or ice cream, or fill in the blank.  And I will find myself jumping in the car to run after it, but there is something different about it now.  I will run to Whole foods and buy a donut with no preservatives or dyes, or artificial anything.  That’s a big change from my days of buying a full sheet of birthday cake and taking it home and devouring it alone.  If you missed my past post on this topic read From Binging to Balance .

Here are two Juice Recipes we made often during the 6 days:

Bok choy, green apple, spinach, cucumber, zucchini, and kale.

Celery, lemon, ginger, green apple, cucumber
