Hallelujah! CDC Says “Think Fungus”!

Written by Erin Porter

I had to put tomorrow’s intended post on hold as this breaking news from the CDC is just too important to wait.

I first heard the news today from Doug Kaufmann of the TV program “Know The Cause”.  It was Doug who me gave me the knowledge, tools, and fortitude to get well and was actually the inspiration for EPGW.  When I heard Doug discussing the article, I couldn’t help but get a bit emotional.  The news brought me back to a dark and distant memory of being dismissed by one doctor after another and feeling very alone in my illness and alone in my pursuit for recovery.

So what’s the big news?  The Center for Disease Control (CDC)  has officially stated that if you have any disease that has not responded to conventional medical treatment you may want to “think fungus”.  Hallelujah!  It took them a LONG time, but kudos to them for finally realizing we need to investigate this path, try new treatments, and simply take fungus seriously.   For people who are chronically ill, it can be a long, lonely road, running from doctor to doctor, desperately trying to figure out what went wrong with their health.  They deal with loved ones not understanding why they aren’t getting better, when after-all, they are doing everything the doctor has suggested and prescribed.  It can be isolating, discouraging, and it can impact every aspect of one’s life.  It can mean not living life to the fullest or to one’s potential and what can be worse than that?   I remember the many times I uttered the word “fungus” to a doctor in the hopes of getting proper treatment.  I was either quickly dismissed or they actually got annoyed at my ridiculous suggestion and theory.

This news is a wonderful vindication and validation for so many of us suffering with the affects of fungus.  This post is dedicated to all of you that have decided to take your health into your own hands and treat yourself as if you had a fungal infection and miraculously (or not so miraculously) conquered your health issues and got well.   This is also for those who are still on that confusing and lonely road of illness and have exhausted all avenues with your doctors. Maybe now you’ll have more knowledge, courage (and back up from CDC) to pursue and demand new paths of treatment.  Whether your problem is chronic sinuses infections, cancer, fibromyalgia, IBS, psoriasis, and the many many other diseases that are linked to fungus this post is for you.  Fungus can gain a foothold in virtually any tissue/organ in your body and wreak havoc.  If you are sick and haven’t found any solutions, fear not, get excited, dig in and learn everything you can about fungus and how to rid yourself of it.

Below is the link to both Doug’s show regarding the news from the CDC as well as the CDC article.  NOTE: although I believe the CDC article is a great start, I feel they are still a bit behind the eight ball.  They begin their article with “Overall, most serious fungal infections are rare, but they do happen. They are most common among people with weak immune systems”.  Not only do I feel fungal infections are not rare, but rather the most under diagnosed health problem as fungus mimics everyday common diseases like MS and cancer but they are not just for the people with weakened immune systems and in fact anyone with a fungal infection can expect a weakened immune system as fungus itself suppresses the immune system.  They also list certain medications that make you more susceptible to fungal infections which is wonderful but what I didn’t see listed are antibiotics.  Probably the biggest offender as after all, antibiotics are mold!  Of course antibiotics do in fact save lives, but are  handed out entirely too often without first investigating what the offending organism may be.  And if it turns out to be fungus and not bacteria, antibiotics can then add fuel to that fungal infection.
